How the Moon Sweepers calculator works

A Pressure Chamber turns dust into Moon Sand worth three times as much, and a Stone Press combines equal amounts of dust and Moon Sand into Moonstone worth seven times as much. The calculator tries every possible split of your dust between the Pressure Chambers and the Stone Presses and picks the one worth the most, within each machine's throughput limit.

  • Pressure Chamber: about 25 kg of dust per minute, needs 10 kW.
  • Stone Press: up to 20 kg of Moonstone per minute (10 kg dust + 10 kg Moon Sand), needs 18 kW.
  • Solar Post: 3 kW nominal. Solar Twin (M): 7.5 kW nominal.
With one Pressure Chamber and one Stone Press, sending about half of your dust to the chamber gives roughly seven times the value of selling it raw.

Power: why machines stop at night

Solar output in Moon Sweepers falls to zero at night, so a line that runs perfectly in daylight can stop the moment the sun goes down. Tick Night in the calculator to see what happens without stored energy. Two common mistakes: three Solar Posts give 9 kW, which is not enough for a single 10 kW Pressure Chamber, and a Pressure Chamber plus a Stone Press together need 28 kW.

Keep a direct conveyor route from your cleaning area to the Depot as well. If the processing line loses power, raw dust keeps selling and your income does not drop to zero.

Moon Sweepers completion time

The completion calculator uses the total of about 163,830 sectors. Count how many sectors you clean in an hour of normal play — the map and Field Manual show your progress — and enter it with your current percentage. The result is a straight-line estimate, so it gets more accurate as you measure with your real setup, and it will drop sharply once vehicles and robots are working for you.

Assumptions and limits

  • Values are relative to raw dust. Enter your own price per kilogram to see dollars per hour.
  • The calculator assumes 1 kg of dust makes 1 kg of Moon Sand and that machines are always fed. Belt speed and splitter behaviour are not modelled.
  • If total demand is higher than solar supply, it treats the machines as stopped — in practice they may run intermittently.
  • Numbers are based on patch 1.0.4 and community testing. If an update changes them, we update the calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best ratio for Pressure Chambers and Stone Presses?
One Pressure Chamber can supply Moon Sand for more than two Stone Presses, so add presses before adding a second chamber. Use the calculator to check your own supply.
How many Solar Posts do I need?
At least four Solar Posts for one Pressure Chamber, and ten for a chamber plus a press, before allowing for night time.
